The Maldives is the ultimate dream travel destination – a tropical island paradise with white sandy beaches, endless palm trees and turquoise blue water in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
Who doesn’t dream of a vacation to the Maldives?
However, for many people it remains a dream because they believe they could never afford the Maldives. The idea that the Maldives is only suitable for honeymoon couples, particularly wealthy people, package holiday travelers and all-inclusive lovers is also widespread.
But this is a big mistake. A vacation to the Maldives doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive and individual travelers and backpackers can also have their dream vacation in the Maldives.
Here I’ll show you how you can have a dream vacation in paradise with a low budget. Experience authentic local islands instead of overpriced resorts.
The face behind Maldives on a Budget
My name is Jasmin and I left Germany in 2018. After my one-year-trip around the world, nothing was the same as before. I could no longer imagine a life in Germany.
I’m a water person and love the sea. Diving & snorkeling is my passion. That’s how I ended up in the Maldives in 2019. The small country with impressive underwater world fascinated me straight away, so I stayed.
I initially worked in guest relations at a resort and was super happy there. But then something unexpected happened: Corona destroyed my life.
I lost my job and moved to the local island of Maafushi. I started something new and have been helping travelers to plan their trips to the Maldives ever since. Today I live my dream life between palm trees and white sandy beaches – I regularly commute between Indonesia and the Maldives.
Why I started Maldives on a Budget
When I visited the Maldives for the first time, I didn’t have a big budget. Since I was traveling alone, I couldn’t share the accommodation costs with anyone. A vacation to one of the resorts, which start at around $400 a night, was out of reach for me.
I also wanted to get to know local culture and interact with other travelers. The perfect solution was the local island of Maafushi. I stayed in an accommodation there for about $40 per night and was able to go on many inexpensive diving and snorkeling trips from there.
Despite my small budget, I didn’t have to miss out on my dream vacation. That’s why my project Maldives on a Budget is very close to my heart.
